On February 1, 2013, it was announced in America that most public swimming pools, wading pools, and spas must be handicap accessible. The announcement came as a result of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and failing to comply with the new rules could result in a hefty $55 000 fine.

The new rules would apply to all public swimming pools, hotels, clubs, and recreation centers. At least one or two methods of easy access to the pool would need to be provided to swimmers. Read more about the ADA swimming pool access announcement here.

We think this is a great initiative, as the vast benefits of swimming should be enjoyed by all, regardless of physical draw backs. Safe and easy entry to a pool should be available to all.
