The first Monday of August has been called many things.  From the August Long Weekend to Emancipation Day, Simcoe Day, Colonel By Day, Heritage Day to Natal Day, to the more legally recognized Civic Holiday.  Whatever you call the upcoming long weekend, it’s the perfect time for a family-centric backyard staycation.

Here are some of our favorite ideas to jump start your long weekend party!

Water Balloon Fights
You are never too old to engage in a water balloon fight.  With all the new gadgets to speed up filling time, it’s never been easier to take the game to the next level.

Shaving Cream Antics
Sensory fun for the whole family.  From shaving cream pools to art tables to science experiments, there is no shortage of artful play experiences.

Outdoor Movie
If you have access to a projector, trust us, the backyard movie experience is not to be missed.  Sleeping bags or cozy blankets, a wee concession stand, and some glow sticks – and your event will be a hit.  Bonus points if you can sit in your hot tub to watch the movie!

Lawn Games
Family-friendly to competitive types will enjoy the endless list of lawn games.  Have to admit some of us here at Hot Tub Covers Canada get a little crazy over the adult size Kerplunk!

Slip & Slide
How many of you remember the original Slip N’ Slide from the 1960’s?  While certain advances happened over the years, the premise remains the same.  You can even build you own super long version. Trust us, it’s worth the effort!
